This monument to Sandino, hero of the anti-Somoza movement, dominates the skyline behind Managua. This, and a number of other monuments to the revolution, were erected by the Sandinistas. SInce the last change of government they've been starved of maintenance funds, which is pretty silly: even if you don't like the Sandinistas, you should still respect those that defeated Somoza. |
